As a prominent player in the energy industry, ARA Petroleum is committed to sustainability and responsible business practices. This commitment has resulted in a growing number of concrete initiatives, robust processes and innovative solutions that together ensure sustainability permeates our everyday business.
Our sustainability policies are aligned with local and global ESG agendas and all have tangible connections to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Our strategy for a sustainable and just energy transition incorporates circular economy practices and climate action goals. In 2023, we devised our ARA Petroleum Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions intensity reduction roadmap which will set us on the path to reducing our Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon emissions, as defined by the WRI-Greenhouse Gas Protocol, to net-zero by 2030.
We believe the global energy transition should be just and sustainable and think Tanzania’s development of its vast gas resources aligns to this ethos.
Helping Tanzania use its own affordable, accessible gas will help it reduce the consumption of firewood and charcoal, which are highly polluting, cause premature deaths and exacerbate deforestation. Domestically produced gas will help alleviate energy poverty in the country where only around 20% of the population have access to electricity. It can also cut demand for coal, which is far more polluting than gas.
APT is the operator of the Ntorya Gas Field, Tanzania’s largest onshore gas project. We are building infrastructure and expanding our operations so that we can start producing gas from Ntorya for the Tanzanian market soon.
